What was repaired if you don't mind me asking? I assume you are writing about an auto!?! I have put 3 flush's through mine and though she shifts a smidge rough when cold hasn't failed me yet <knocking on wood>, but does have a very very small leak (not real sure I'd call it that) in rear seal thanks to not changing when changing u-joints and carrier bearing for the two-piece shaft.

My 03 is now at 51,000 miles. Only problems I've had with it personally were two defective IAC's, a missing transmission solenoid bolt, a broken transmission solenoid retaining bracket, and some still occurring torque converter shutter and accompanying O/D Off light when in O/D. Hopefully gonna figure that issue out soon so I can finally drive her without having to drive her a special way.

432,156, 98 XLT 4 Door, 3.0, just got back from a test drive after replacing fuel pump for P0174/P0171 codes. Dallas to Key West Fl and back. no codes. First two fuel pressure checks were in specs and was about to pull the trigger on manifold gaskets, 3rd showed low, I think its fixed. 2 radiators (usuall plastic cracks), alternator, couple belts, hoses, including the heater hose assembly. Failed in the plastic area where the vacumn hose connects. Front suspension, upper/lower ball joints, inner/outer tie rods, bearings/rotors and a couple of windshields (storm chasing will do that) and of course fresh oil and filter every 3000,I also use STP. My next truck? A lightley used 2008 Ranger last year for the vulcan engine. Thanks to you folks in this forum for all this info to help keep my Ranger rolling

I've got about 270K on my 92 2.3L. I bought it new. Its a one owner. I've still got the dealer license plate bracket and those "plastic keys" that came with the owners manual. What are those anyway haha. Its been many things. I used it for 20 years to haul ladders and me in my window cleaning business and on Wednesday nights I'd do quarter mile drags in the SportStreet class for 4 and 6 cylinder cars. Because I wanted to go faster I took the motor to a machine shop for freshening up around 190K miles, but I'm still using the original pistons. So its been really sturdy. I retired from the window cleaning business and work part time as a agri field technician in Northern Calif and some days drive as much as 200 miles in agri country gathering various plant and soil data. Best a truck has ever been to me. Hoping to go turbo or? in 2017 when I'm California exempt status and allowed to mod the motor. Probably something like the TBird 2.3L. But thinking maybe a newer Ford turbo? Something like that. Probably stay with the inline 4.

The Tranny problem we had was with the 4 speed /overdrive, manual. There are 3 plugs in the front and 3 pugs in the rear of the shifter plate. These plugs, I think they were rubber, have a tendency to leak. They didn't leak enought to see a spot on the driveway. They must be for pressure build up and rlieve the pressure and tranny fluid would escape. I didn't know it when we got the truck, but these manual transmission called for ATF. Yes that's automatic transmission fluid in a manual transmission. I didn't know it and I checked the tranny and it was low. I topped it off with 90 weight gear oil. Shie was a little stiff shifting, but we got probably 3-4 years out of her. Then one day, my boy was driving up the highway and he said something was wrong. he said if he put it in neutral, the car went forward. We got her home and pulled the tranny. Went to Crazy Ray's, a local pick and pull and got another tranny. Tore ours down and found the roller bearing had melded to the shfts creating 1 long shaft instead of 2 seperate shafts. Now that we know, we check the tranny on every oil change @ 5,000 miles. We are using a synthetic bled motor oil int the tranny. Replaced the rubber plugs with a rebuild kit that had metal expansion plugs, I think? No problems since.

FOWL1,
The leaky transmission plugs are fairly common. Without any other leaks, checking the level @ every 5,000 miles would be a good practice. If I recall correctly, the manual for my '94 suggests to change the manual transmission ATF every 30,000 miles. You may want to limit future surprises by reading over the info provided at the thread entitled, READ FIRST: RANGER: TECHNICAL INFORMATION.

When was the rear differential gear lube last changed?
