I'm in the same boat as you David. I have the other 2.3 ready to go in..... but if it ain't broke, why fix it!? I'm going to leave the original 2.3 in and see if I can get 320 or 330,000 out of er. Main reason being because my F-150 has a dead tranny, so I don't have a backup vehicle to drive, in case somethin goes wrong with the engine swap in the ranger. She's still runnin good though!

Like the Rangerman3 says:"Todays local paper headlines read:"For the first time, all tenvehicles,on Consumer Reorts":"top picks",were Japanese!('Lest WE Forget"!)Pearl? As a devout Ford man from my first car,a 57 ford Fairlane(1964)after 42 years(2002 Ranger) I can't see any other vehicle for me!As I watch the news at this minute, there talking about the Japanese"Top Picks"!"Hogwash"When I was a kid, many moons ago,I would watch all the "NEW" Fords come out of Chicago's Hegewisch Plant,as they traversed US 41 ,on my way to/from school in Indiana!Always thought about them "beauty's!Little did I know today I love my Ranger, and profess to it's quality! No matter what the critics say about the:"Top Picks"!This is as many of you also have said:"Our TOP pick"!

My 97 ranger 4.0L V6 has over 173,000 miles. Its days are numbered. Its haveing some issues that are to expensive to fix for the value of the truck. I drive 60 miles one way to work. It has been a very reliable truck. It still runs good. Just has torque converter stuck in the off position which is not in my price range to fix. Hard shifts but is tolerable.
