06silvercrew, let me get this straight. Your a GM master tech that owns and drives a 3/4 ton ford, and likes it? haha, I love it. GM can't even keep the technicans driving from within the family.

You got it! Been with GM for 13 years, but Im a lifetime ford fanatic. I mean come on, what other truck on the market looks as good as a SD???? Not to mention a solid axle

Well I was getting ready to start a new thread titled ESOF fixed permanantly and then I came across this thread. I just spent 5 hrs, 1 12pack of bud light, 150.00 for manual hubs, 125.00 for manual shift lever, linkage and everything needed except the rubber boot. I no longer have to wonder if the ESOF is going to work or not. I lock in the hubs pulled the lever dash lit up and the mud was slinging. Best 300.00 and 5 hrs I have spent with the truck since 2000. It went smooth as a babys but. Everything came from the local junk yard (sorry auto recylcer) picked it up at 4pm and by 10pm I was slinging mud. Still have to get the new boot from Ford but at least I dont have to worry about the ESOF maybe or maybe not working.

06silvercrew,
I'm having a time with my ESOF right now, I think my shift motor is shot. I hate it.
I'd really like a manual shift.

Can you take a picture of your setup? I think there's enough interest in this that someone could make an adapter that bolts onto the shift motor's place.

My wife is from Albemarle, and we visit her family there right frequently. Maybe I can swing by your plantation sometime to see your setup.

Search ESOF elimination build. There are pics and a few more details there.

06silvercrew,
Let me get this straight, I can convert my existing ESOF t-case just by gutting the shift motor and fabbing a shifter ? Can you attach pics to show me how to do this? When I get home to my truck, this is first on my list along with manual hubs.
Thanks, Sean

Help me.....

One for auto, one for a 6 spd, each with a choice of manual 4x4 or electronic. So, make sure you get the right one. As said earlier, your plate on the floor comes off and shifter comes through.

You can see the plate removed in this picture kind of.
To get the 4x4 lights to work, just cut the old signal wires from the main ESOF harness and attach the lt blue and lt blue/blk wires. If you have any questions, let me know!

I've got a 271 in my pickup. I tore it up and found a 273-D for CHEAP. Mine is a stick shift and the 273-D is electric. I've got a four speed auto in mine but don't know about the donor truck. It looks as though I can pull the solenoid off of the 273-D and put my linkage on from the 271. The sensor for the indicator light won't work, but for cheap that's okay. Can this be done. I was looking through here and it seems as though you know what you're talking about. Once again..... HELP!!!!
Thanks,
Sheldon

My reason for doing this search and this post is I need to tow my 2006 f350 4x4 on a regular basis. Is there also a neutral available on this transfer case.

The electric shift has a theoretical neutral but there is not button position for it like GM trucks. If you take the shift motor off a NV273 and just hook a lever to the sector shaft you will have your 2H-4H-4L but you won't have a neutral. Theoretically there is a neutral between 4H and 4L but only if you hold the lever in exactly the right spot. Since (as I recall) the NV273 sector doesn't have a neutral detent there is no way to hold it in neutral for flat towing.

Ideally to get the neutral you'd have to swap the tcase or at least change the sector shaft and sector support. Later NV273 have a different front housing (sector support is integrated) therefore you'd have to change the front case as well.
