Rookie(?) Diesel Mistake
I recently pulled into a Mobil gas station, grabbed the green handle pump, and proceeded to put 23 gallons of regular gas in my 1999 F250 diesel. Two questions:
1) I've driven diesels for 25 years now, and this is the first time I've seen any fuel other than diesel with green pump handles. I thought this was some sort of standard?
2) I had all of the gas removed and changed the fuel filter. It's running fine now. Any long term damage or other things I should check? (I only drove for about a mile after it became apparent something was amiss)

I think your right about their being a standard on the colors. I'll check and see if I can find something. In the mean time, you might want to get a few pictures of the station and the funky colored nozzle.

I avoid Mobil like the plague, the idiots cost me $200 buck cause they don't winterize their fuel. I go to HESS in the local area, you can smell the kerosene in their diesel. Plus Mobil/Exxon is the biggest importer of middle eastern oil. Bouycott them if you can.

I've seen a few of these blunders. One we had ended up needing some new injectors after around 10,000 miles. Its really fun getting rid of 50+ gallons of gas with a little diesel mixed with it. (55 gallon tanks) We would add 5 gallons of it to gas engine tanks each fill untill its all gone. It won't hurt a gas engine unless the diesel content is too high, then it would make them start a little harder.

When I was in Europe last year, the green handles were for regular gas, and I think black was diesel. I put about 4 liters of gas into our diesel rental. I drove it that way because I had little choice in the matter. It sure lost a lot of power! I did inform the guy at the rental counter when we turned it in that day. He said not to worry - it happens regularly!

I stoped at a truckstop on my way home from Waco a couple weeks ago. I went up to the Automotive pump and found a green, yellow, orange and black handled pumps
WHAT THE HECK IS THIS? I thought. I always see diesel pumps as green or yellow, this place the diese was the black pump?
Just gotta pay attention.
