Bleeder valves on brakes ??????
Hi,
I am wondereing if all bleeder valves on brakes are created equal??
I have a 1986 F-250 4x4 and the bleeder valve on the right rear drum is rounded-out,the other ones are not much better!!
I can't loosen it and will have to change it soon. I will have to ruin it to get it out. Are these standard sizes on all brakes? Are they metric? Do they all have the same kind of thead? Is there any site online where I can order some new ones?
Alot of questions but I live in Europe and can only get parts through the internet.
Any reply will be greatly appreciated.
Mike

You can probably buy just the bleeder valve, but you might have to try several in order to find one that fits. In 1986, it was probably SAE, not metric.
Why don't you just buy a new wheel cylinder? They always come with a new valve, and if your valve is old enough that it has been rounded out, then you are probably due for a new cylinder anyway.
www.autozone.com shows a new rear wheel cylinder for an '86 F250 for only $9.99.

Mike, jschira is correct, it is probably better to get the wheel cylinder, it could be leaking anyway. Another possible problem is frozen line nuts. I have delt with this before, you never know when the end will be ie: wheel cylinders, metal lines, flex lines. Good Luck to ya in Europe.

You can also get these which are a hell of a lot easier to bleed. I agree though. Replace the wheel cylinders if there only $10.
