Ken,

Perhaps it is the 'inferred mileage sensor;? AKA 'extended useful life' sensor.
Does your truck have a check emissions warning light?
Does the little black box have a small hole in the corner? (with or without a sticker over the hole?)
Basically it is an engine hours meter that sets a check light at around each 60k miles.

The one in my '87 is a bit more "boxy", and located up between my steering column and the radio/heater controls.

Google the numbers on it and you'll be led back here to FTE and probably to posts from NumberDummy.

I suspect an Emission Throttle Positioner Control Actuator Assy.

Ken - Isn't it amazing how much "stuff" had crept onto the trucks over the years? I wound up with the same boxes after detoxing the '82 I bought where the PO had had a "mechanic", using the term very loosely, to replace the feedback carb - without replacing the distributor. It was so hacked there was no return, so out it went.

As for the vacuum, I would guess that it is due to the lack of EGR as you suggested. Do you feel like it is any more responsive or is it pretty much the same? It'll be interesting to see what your petrol usage does.

I finally located a silver paint pen and redid all the interior trim, and it turned out nice. Did the a/c vents too.

Jim & Chris - Thanks.

The wire colors are exactly as Ralph describes in Jim's link; & my truck also was originally a Californian EECIII 302, like he mentions - BUT I don't have an 'Emissions' light......the two unused light positions in the dash are for '4x4' & 'Shift'.

The box is still attached to the firewall - I'll get it off & check for the reset hole & part#'s, out of interest.
At least, either way, it won't cause me any trouble being deleted.

Thanks again.

Gary, it is amazing, especially when you see it all in one heap! Great to be rid of it, a nice clear & clean engine bay

It feels slightly stronger at part throttle; at WOT I don't notice any real difference........so again I'm assuming the EGR delete.

And, definitely, I'll be watching the mileage like a hawk!

My truck has an emissions light, it will light up when I turn the key to the on position. Although lately I haven't noticed it coming on. The other un used one in my cluster says 4x4 which isn't applicable to my truck since it's 2WD lol.

Testors felt tip paint pen from Hobby Lobby, $4.95. Very easy, just go around the raised part with the felt tip, it puts just the right amount of paint on there without going over or dripping.

I took the brake controller out of the 86 and put it in the Excursion today... Ford still has an affinity for putting crap in fun places. I had to pull the lower dash to access the connector for the factory controller wiring. Supposedly you dont have to, but I dont bend that way...

Hey fellas. Now just cause I got rid of my bullnose doesnt mean Im checkin out. Turns out you guys are more fun then the SD guys. Now as far as what Iv done, I got home from a trainin exercise and my caliper crapped itself. I tried the local shops and found that no one has rebuild kits so I may try online but its not lookin good.

So, what vehicle was the caliper on?

As for us being more fun, I'm surprised you act surprised. How could you get better than here?

I've done nothing to my truck. I'm too busy working and chasing girls.

The 1980 F350 Trailer Special I pulled all of my TS stuff from has one of these as well. I wondered what it was, but now I know.
