Hopefully the hub seals are good in it.
They are expensive, and a PITA to get in and out.

That's a GOOD DEAL. The COMPLETE kit is around 70$.

It has everything you need to build any E-Brock.

Even with that, Around 120$ is a LOT cheaper than $300 for a new one.

I re-did my 1406 on my 85 and it is as good as new. I bought it in 1996 and re-did it only because the truck set up for Several years.

It is old enough that it still has WEBER stamped on it.

I wish I could have gotten the 1405 for the same price as the 1406. In 1996 I paid 219$ and the 1405 was around $300 this year.(INFLATION)

I don't think (if you get it) that you will have ANY trouble getting your money back if you don't like it. Trav

GVWR question

Hi fellas, so last time I asked a question on GVWR it was on towing, how much could be safely loaded, etc.

Since the certification label on my truck was peeled off, I don't know GAWR or what the specific weight rating is on my truck (I get a 6001-7000 lb range, and that's it).

If I give you guys this information, is it possible for you fellas to tell me what my specific GVWR is? Like 6100, 8400, 10400, etc. I'm thinking it's 6100 lbs (the higher numbers I typed were just examples for 250's and 350's, etc.).

8.8'' rear, 3.08 gears
Dana 44 TTB, 3.07 gears
117'' wheelbase
4x4
NP435 4-speed manual
300 Inline-6
Disc brakes front, drum brakes rear
Power brakes
Power steering
No towing packages/cooling packages

If you can't, that's fine.

X

What did I do to my truck today?

I cleaned up on the inside of the engine bay a little bit, admired that shiny new power-steering pump and that dry pitman arm. Checked the PS fluid, belt tension, and made sure none of the connections were loose.

Washed the truck, cleaned the engine bay a bit, and cleaned the motor.

Nothing like a little detailing.

Ugh....

What's your VIN? I think we can get a bit more specific using just that but don't recall for certain....

I know on the sticker it'd say something like "F153" or "F143" or something like that as a weight rating code.

The only things pertaining to the GVWR on my truck in the vin are 1FTEF14Y.

1FT - made in America complete truck
E - 6001-7000lb GVWR (I'm assuming 6100).
F14 - 4x4 F150
Y - 300 inline-6

Like I said, it's no big deal if you can't find anything. I might just have to keep an eye on the other truck's stickers on here and see what I can get from that.

If you don't buy it I'll put you in the same category as Bruno. I sent him a text message today about a 1405 for $50 here on CL. Later he came to the shop and didn't say he'd bought the carb. Didn't even mention it.

Gary, sounds like Bruno must have had something else on his mind.

I haven't done much to my 85 lately. Had a flare-up with my RA.

Been to the doctor a few times and got meds calibrated again.

Feeling 100 % better today. Looks like tomorrow will be a good day to re-die my kick panels and interior pieces.

You have been BUSY. Your truck is coming along GREAT.

I really like the way that blasting cabinet makes stuff look great.

I have a sand blaster (40 lb) but I have to pick DRY DAYS to blast.

Humidity wreaks havoc with it.

Anyway, keep up the good work. Trav.

In contact with the owner of this Sterling. I've got my 4.10 axle, a holley carb, and some various man toys he's interested in. He also needs about 3acres bush hogged and then trim mowed. Right up my alley.

If I had to guess he's late 50's and crusty. Appears that phones are a new concept for him. His XXX-XXX is a local land line, but I swear he had the receiver upside down. Should be hilarious

I spent several hours today flushing my cooling system. Looks like I've got a good amount (think New England jap car) of rust in there Couple pictures in the thread in my signature.

Other than that, I'm hoping to get up with the inspection fellows tomorrow, finally. And fill up. I've been 90mi, and look to be about 1/8 of a tank less fuel use than I normally am at this point.

Alright, Alright!!! Actually I did call and he came up with some BS story about how he would have to look for it and now all of a sudden wasn't real sure if it was all there...thought maybe some of the linkages had been used on another carb but wasn't sure.

I just said thanks anyway. If he was closer, I would have gone over anyway...but he's a good hour away.

http://web.comporium.net/~jawyman/VC-sticker.jpg

I think that sticker has all the information I need.

Same wheelbase, same body, same axle (and I'm assuming axle code, 8.8 3.08 rear non-locking), 4x4, same transmission and motor, and the same gearing.

The only things different between his vin and my vin are the number 7 and the letter H as well as the numbers after NA. His truck was made at the same plant as mine was. The year it was made is different, however, and his is EFI.

I'll go ahead and assume 6100 lb GVWR, 3050 front GAWR, and 3750 rear GAWR. This means my truck would be an F141.

If you find/found anything, please let me know.

I found some of my information online through your photos on Imageshack, Chris.

I'm definitely going to have to get myself some of those shop manuals one day.

What I didn't say is that Bruno is in the category of "friend", so putting someone there is good. Yes, he seems to have a lot going on at the moment.

I suspect that part of your problem is that you don't have a drier on your air system. I had that problem as well when I first started. But, I also had too small of a compressor as it should only run about half the time in order to allow things to cool down as you can't get water vapor out of hot air. So, I now have a 30 CFM compressor with a 3-stage filtering/drying system on it. But, were I to do it over again I'd buy one of the refrigerated drying systems I've seen here on CL.

But, thanks! I'm hoping to reach the end of the cleaning/coating process tomorrow, at which point I can move on to the heads. Then put the engine together, and at that point maybe I can get back to the ZF5 swap.

In his add he had 20-30 things listed, the carb being one. Seems like he's doing some late spring cleaning and is not real sure what all he has.

I am a little sarcastic, so I hope I didn't come off to offend Bruno.

If I did I will certainly (and publicly say Sorry).

As for the drier, it is a cheapo. But works fairly well.

The compressor is 15cfm. It is big enough as I don't do too many Large items. It keeps up for what I do.

I am amazed at Powder Coating. Haven't seen it in action but the results speak for themselves.

I know you will be glad to get the engine back together and hear that big baby fire up.(It is ALWAYS a big rush). Later, Trav.

What's a good price for a Sterling axle? In contact with someone selling one. $150 for a Sterling 10.25, 3.55, Posi out of an F250 with 120k on it. Asking $150.

Not sure if it matters, I guess it would, but didn't the Sterling 10.25 come in either full or semi floating axles? I would think at a minimum, it would require different rims between the 2.
