yep, right here. The more details the better, but there are a lot of smart people here and a lot of experienced people too. Just give all the truck information you can as well.

here is the problem we have, i posted this elsewhere and have no replies :(

2001 Ford F250 5.4 liter. Thats all i know as for details..
We can get the truck to turn over, and it will stay on as long as we do not let off the gas. it will also not start unless giving it a bit of gas. We did replace the PCV valve last night, that did help with a small odd noise. Also, when the truck is running, it has a very odd smell. any ideas what this could be....?? fuel pump, air flow sensor, and the air intake control are all suggestions that i have been given thus far.

Also, is there anywhere to find a manual with a labeled diagram to identify some parts under the hood?

Welcome to the best forum I've ever found. Since your problems are engine related, you might do better visiting the 5.4 forum. Stick around, and good luck!

Bumping to keep you fresh...sounds to me like a plugged cat. Have you checked your exhaust components for being plugged.

I would check the IAC- idle air control. Might need cleaning/replacing. If you use the search and look up iac you will find a thread with pictures and symptoms.
You can use this picture from the V-10 to get an idea of where it is. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...rsion-v10.html

I've solved this problem twice in a 150 with a 4.6 once and a expedition with a 5.4 twice now i believe on each occasion i sprayed carb cleaner into the throttle bodies scrubbed some with a tooth brush and it fixed it. I have heard that carb cleaner can damage the sensors but i never had an issue

Is the odd smell similar to sulphur or rotting eggs?

I cant even describe the smell, more chemical like than sulpher.. and it actually coming from under the hood, not the exhaust. I did go and get an Auto scanner today and will see if throws any codes tonight. we have sprayed the carb cleaner in there and thats when it did seem to start a bit better, but still died.. hope i have an update by monday.

thank you all for the replies, it has helped...

I would check IAC as well as the MAF (mass air flow sensor). A chemical smell under the hood could possibly be an electrical issue.

Grab a good drop light and do a thorough inspection under the hood.
