aftercooler boot popped off, twice.

we have an F-450 ambulance chassis w/ the 6.0 that had the after cooler boot pop off twice tonight. It's the one right after the turbo, before it gets to the aftercooler.

Is this a sign of a bad problem ?

Or just a loose boot ?

Please advise.

Clean the parts with degreaser and spray the connecting surfaces with hair spray moments prior to torquing to spec.It works very well.

It's a common problem caused from oil that is saturating into the boots from the CCV system.
You just have to degrease the boot good or it will keep slipping off, I sprayed some starting fluid on my boot and on the turbo where the boot attaches to get rid of the oily residue, then reinstalled the boot and it's been fine for over a year now!

If the boot looks like it's weeping oil thru the pores then you need to replace it and the clamps at the same time. Save the old clamps for emergencies.

I just had the same problem. I held up the tube with a zip-tie to get home. Bought a new blue 40 degree coupling.

Going to build a brace bolted to the alternator bracket to help suspend the tube which is what I think accerates the problem.

What are the clamps to be torqued to and should the tube side be pushed all the in to the end of the taper before tightening...Thanks
