I'm not a mechanic by any means, nor do I claim to be, nor do I claim to have any reliable input to your situation so just take this with a grain of salt. But my truck had similar issues before. It always took slightly longer than usual to start, but every once in a while it would take a long time to crank before it would finally start (especially if it was during the morning time). I just had to have my PCM replaced about a week or so ago and ever since then my truck doesn't crank any time before starting, and no more white smoke. It's only been a week but it normally did it more frequently than a week. Hopefully your brother's issue isn't this costly though.
thanks to CHEEZIT and other inputs will let my brother know in am..cheezit he said he purchased new batt from cosco is it possible his is on way out.had to replace mine last month as primary went south.the winemaker
i had the same problem with my 04 once. ended up being a loose power feed wire to the gpcm. the glo-plugs weren't heating up causing a hard start-white smoke problem for me.hopefully its something that easy for you.the wire is on the pass. side batt, positive connector.
