I drive an '02 4x4, 7.3, banks 4", riff raft diesel intake, no other mods. I do use diesel kleen quite a bit. I avg almost 15mpg over 8500 miles of tracking mixed city/hwy. On flat, not towing I get 20, city about 15.5. Towing in Colorado, 7k # trailer, about 11-13 depending on how aggressive on the pedal.

16-22mpg
Just got back from 2,455 miles over Christmas holidays in SC, GA, MS, AL, AR & FL. Had 6 people and our dog on board - and got 19.2mpg for the trip (including many miles around towns).
Stock engine, K&N filter, 2" lift, stock 265/75R16 ties/wheels @ 75psi.
Will replace tires with 305/75R16 (9% larger dia) this spring.
The 7.3L likes to run at 1750RPM ...
If I run on flat land (lots of that inthe SC lowcountry) @ 62mph, I have gotten 23mpg over a 100 miles or so, but that's pushing it.
I get 16mpg around town, and about the same towing an 18' center console boat all over the southeast.
Think a chip would get better mileage?

I am running 2 cycle oil in the tank and have installed an MBRP turbo back since last I posted. Overhead is saying 14.5-15.5 on winter fuel local driving. I am very good with that. I add 16 oz's of the walmart Super Tech every fill up. Not sure if it is doing much but I swear the mileage did go up.

I havent measured my fuel mileage manually, only with the overhead thing. It says I'm getting 16 around town, about 17 at 75 mph, and well over 20 at 60-65 mph. I havent measured when towing yet. Now, I am reading in this thread that the overhead gauge is wrong. I have noticed that when my speedo says I'm doing 80, my GPS (a Tom-tom) says I'm doing 75. When I'm doing 69 on the speedo, I'm only going 65 according to GPS. I tend to believe the GPS. I wonder if the discrepancy between displayed fuel mileage and actual is due to the speedometer inaccuracy.
My Ex is an 02 limited 4x4 7.3, totally stock on 265's.
Sorry if that was slightly off topic.

Same here ... 2002 Ex Ltd 4wd 3.73 Limited Slip, 265 BFG (originals - only have 66k miles on here). I've resisted the urge to add a chip ...
We're looking for a 2nd 7.3L Excursion to replace my wife's 454 Sunburban 2500 (been great, but 120k miles and its a gasser).
Just otived you;r ein Greenville ... small world, huh? You fish much?
