I've always wondered how running non taxed diesel is any different that running homemade bio diesel?
I see specials on tv all the time about how Joe citizen makes his own french fry diesel for his Toyota diesel pickup, and brags about his mileage, and how the exhaust smell makes him hungry.
Are the feds chasing these guys down and slapping a fine on them?

I'm not against bio, I was just wondering.

Last I heard they were not messing with the veggie guys. I know there has been talk of it.

I have actually never been dipped, even when running in and out of scales and having DOT inspections. The highway patrol in MT will dip you they if want when they pull you over for speeding. They have also been known to go dip tanks during rodeos and other events where there are a lot of diesel pickups.

I actually know a few guys that run it successfully, but the extra cost and hassle of setting up to run it along with the constant fear of being caught isn't worth it to me.

I think if you read into bio some, I think I read on a page somewhere that you are "supposed" to pay taxes on it if you make a certain ammount of it. Probably depends on the state too. Dont worry, "they" will find a way to get there money someday...... I can see it now..... "If the dog riding with the DOT guy licks your tail pipe you better have your tax recipts with you."

I ran Red fuel when i was getting it free at work. It made it run no different in my rig. Same MPGs same everything. Higher sulfer lubricated it more i think? But the dip testing became a serious issue so i quit, changed my filter a few times and wont touch it again.

I have heard of them checking at County and State Fairs, Rodeos, any where Diesels will gather in more then normal larger commodities. Now if i had a TDI Jetta or something, i would run it! Who is to suspect!

Don't be tempted!

Got a thousand gallon tank right out behind the shop of red dye and a 150 gal. transfer on a trailer we pull around to fuel tractors and combines... at nearly 50 cents a gallon I've been tempted more than once, but a neighbor of mine got dipped about two months ago and got hit with it, had to pay the tax for every gallon of off-road he's bought this year to current, and what he had used in his pickup accounted for about 5% of the use. The other couple thousand gallons was legit, but paid road tax on it all just the same. Lesson learned..

Exclamation

First of all there is no more "high sulfer" fuel produced in the USA. Its been that way since 2007.
On the Bio side here in Iowa you can brew 600 gallons a year B-4 you are required to pay road use tax...I never brew more than my limit......
But i also still have to by some fuel and always keep recipts so if I ever get ask I have proof of paying taxes on fuel I have had to purchase.....
