1970 f100 tires

i dont like the width of the stock tires on my 1970 ford f100. i was wondering what is the widest that would fit without changing anything.just put them on and drive.

The stock rim would depend on the GVWR of the truck, I think. For example my '72 F-100 came stock with 5.5" wide wheels. Stock tires were the bias-belted G78-15s, which in today's metric sizes translates closest to a P215/75R15. I can go up to a P225/75R15 (which translates closest to an H78-15) but that's about it. Larger (wider) tires require a wheel of at least 6" width. At least that's what I'm finding when hitting cokertire.com and other tire sites. (I'm trying to keep stock whitewalls on mine).

a super safe bet would be 12 inches wide at almost any hieght if you are running like 33's or 35's then it would be different but at 30 or shorter 12 - 12.5 will not rub any componants. i don't know how that transfers to tire sizes metric. but like i said i ran p165 x 50 r15 on my truck when i bought it *it was lowered before me* then i ran p165x 60 r15 when i put in new springs. right now i have 33 x 12.50's on 15inch rims up front they are the nitto dune grabbers and have lugs on the side walls that add about 1 1/2 - 2 inches tho the over all width of the tire and they rub when i am making a U-turn or turning into a parking spot.

I have 255/60r15 on the front and have minor rubbing at full lock on the radius arms. The rear are 275/55r15s and do not have any rubbing. This is on stock ford 15x5.5 rims.

this thread got me thinking

this thread got me thinking and turns out that my tire as it sits right now is
32.48 tall by 12.83 inches wide.

Nitto Tire - High Performance Tires for Car and Truck Enthusiasts
mines is the 33x12.50r15s on there.

personally 165 x 55 r15 on 12 inch rims never rubbed in front. and yes my truck was bought with them and was lowered so much that it would rubed the fender when the tire shop tried to sneak a pair of 60 profile tires on it. the springs had a goood 3 inches just lopped off of them *didn't even need a spring compressor to remove them they just fell out*
the 165 x 55's actually on the rim they were on stuck some tread out past the side of the fender. if you go too much wider than that it will be illegal or you will have to mod your fender. with the tires and springs being as they were my truck sat about as low as a passenger car. since then 3 inches lift from stock springs and now an additional 5 from new springs it sit up with new trucks in the front and pretty close out back.

Tire sizes go on forever, but one size that looks well proportioned is a 255-70-15. It is the same height as a 235-75-15, only wider.
Another good one is the 30-9.50-15. good truck tire, but it doesn't look as ballooned as the 31-10.50-15.
