New engine down the road...(Larger than the 6.2)
I know that it seems like alot of the hype right now is downsizing engines But I had heard and I can't remember were, I had read that Ford had designed the 6.2L specifically so that they could bore and stroke it out later on down the road. I had heard a rumor that Ford was planning on a 7L + engine that was going to be based off the 6.2L's architecture. And this seems even more likely now that I have heard several rumors that GM is planning to launch a high powered direct injection 7.0L V8 with their new GEN V Vortec engines. Could this possibly mean the revival of the old 7.5L (460)? I mean Ford has already done something alot like this with the new 5.0L V8 in the F-150s. But how cool would it be to see a modern day direct injected aluminum block 7.5L Making 500+hp in the Superduty. Even in this frugal time, it seems like a fairly logical thing to do. From what it sounds like the 6.2L is not quite living up the V-10's legacy in terms of torque. If Ford did this it would make the 6.2L a replacement for the 5.4L (Not the V-10) the new 7+ engine a replacement for the V-10. So you would have a high power high torque engine as a option, But you wouldn't have to pay an 8,000$ premium for the diesel engine. So try to imagine this...
(Ford Superduty)
Base engine - Replaces 5.4L
6.2L V8
Opt Gas Engine - Replaces 6.8L
7.5L V8
Opt Diesel engine
6.7L V8
(Ford Superduty)
Base engine - Replaces 5.4L
6.2L V8
Opt Gas Engine - Replaces 6.8L
7.5L V8
Opt Diesel engine
6.7L V8

I bought the 6.2l two weeks ago and love it. Given the history of the automotive industry I'm sure it's only a matter of time before improvements are made on this engine. But, and it's a big but, I don't see that happening for a few years. Ford is going to want to recoup all the R&D and tooling costs for the 6.2 before they start offering other choices. I couldn't be happier with this engine for my purposes, it was a huge leap forward from the 5.4L.

Last I heard, the Raptor R's have a 500hp version of the 6.2 (aside from the one that has been switched over to a stock ecoboost).
