Wild Ford F-650: Ultimate Show and Go Hauler?
Who says a slammed and bagged Ford F-650 can’t haul a decent load?
When many folks feast their eyes on rides like this 2008 Ford F-650, their reactions are always predictable. They call it things like “useless,” “a waste of a Super Duty,” or even “ruined.” But those opinions are, well, opinions. And they’re rarely based on fact. Because, you see, we know that heavy duty trucks can still haul and tow things even with bagged suspensions, and we see it every day. Besides, not every truck needs to be lifted, right?
Heck, we give this Ford F-650, which we spotted for sale on Craigslist in the Indianapolis area, style points just for daring to be different. It would have been easy just to go the crazy lifted route, after all. But this one’s been slammed to the ground thanks to a full air-ride setup. So those massive 24-inch wheels and Pirelli Scorpion rubber fill the wheel wells up quite nicely.
Power-wise, the original 7.2-liter Caterpillar mill received a mild tune. And, according to the owner, it’s capable of towing “anything a factory Ford F-650 can tow.” We have no reason to doubt that claim, of course, because we’ve seen plenty of bagged trucks tow heavy loads. Especially when you consider that the truck uses semi-sourced bags underneath.
Of course, this one does it with a little more style. The fully blacked out exterior looks pretty menacing, and we’re certainly digging it. The inside, with custom tooled leather insides in the seats? Well, we could probably do without that. But hey, this truck was in Ford’s SEMA booth back in 2008. Which means it was built to grab attention by any means necessary. Nearly a decade later, it’s still doing that just fine. And oh yea, hauling the occasional heavy load, too.
