FTE Member Builds Badass Ford Excursion
After a while, the OP is able to get started on his wish list.
“I was able to do a little work on the EX this weekend. I installed the F-650 lower dash with space for 9 rocker switches. This is in preparation for front and rear ARB lockers being installed soon. Also on the lower dash, I have a voltage meter for both batteries. This is a switch that can be toggled depending on which battery I want to monitor. I chose this switch because it can be placed in an off position. I know it is minimal drain on the battery, but zero is best.
Also replaced the cigarette lighter socket with an Anderson Powerpole outlet. The red switch already in place is the remote control switch for the BlueSea ACR. This lets me connect or disconnect the two batteries from inside the vehicle. The lower dash is not the same color as the ashtray and hook, but I am more than happy with the two tone look. If I can come across replacements for them in the right color, I would get them. For now I am good. “
We think the two-tone looks pretty sweet as is. And the progress didn’t stop there.
“Some things I have done since my last post:
1. ARB front and rear air lockers.
2. Swapped in new gear to 4.56.
3. Swapped in Warn premium hubs.
4. Swapped front and rear diff covers for Ruff Stuff Specialties 3/8 steel covers.
5. Swapped in new dual stabilizer kit from PMF Suspension with Fox 2.0 stabilizers.
6. Lots of wiring maintenance and prepping for future off-road lighting and ham radio/comms radio. I have built a custom relay panel that’s waiting to be installed.”
And that’s where this awesome Excursion build stands as of now. You can (and should) follow along as the big ‘ute comes together by heading over here. And while you’re there, be sure and catch up on what’s been done so far. And maybe even drop an encouraging note for the OP!
