What’s More American than the Ford F-150?
In today’s global economy, it’s becoming more and more difficult to identify the home country of a particular car or truck. Cars assembled in one country might have parts from another country and finally sold in a third. Every year, Cars.com takes a look at all the cars that are on sale in the United States, and then determines the most “American Made” cars and trucks. Turns out, the Ford F-15o isn’t as American-made anymore.
This collection of cars consists of only vehicles that have a parts content of 75% or higher domestic content. Turns out, sitting at the top of the list is the Toyota Camry. The Japanese auto maker builds the Camry in the United States with more domestic parts than any other manufacturer.
Here’s the list of the top cars with domestic content over 75%:
- Toyota Camry
- Toyota Sienna
- Honda Odyssey
- Chevrolet Traverse
- GMC Acadia
- Buick Enclave
- Chevrolet Corvette
According to the report, the 2014 Ford F-150 made the list. But when it made the change to the 2015 model year, it fell below the 75% domestic parts requirement to make this particular list.
The real lesson here is that even if the badge is of foreign origin, many auto makers these days are employing Americans to build cars that are sold here with parts that are made here.
