Watch, and Listen, to the 2017 Raptor Prototype Testing
Last week we told you that production of the Raptor was still solid and on track for the 2017 model year. Today, the folks at Ford have teased us more with a brand new video. This video shows one of the 2017 Raptor prototypes being off-road tested through the woods. There are a lot of interesting tidbits in the video, but the main thing worth noting is you can now HEAR the truck in action.
When you first hear the video, you start to think that it sounds like a normal V6 engine with a bit of a grumble to it, then OH MY GOD LISTEN TO THE TURBOS! The first hill climb you can definitely hear the turbo spooling up. No, there’s no blow-off value or anything like that, but it definitely sounds great.
Now, before taking to the comments and complaining about how there’s no 6.2L V8 in the new Raptor, give the new truck a honest listen. No, it won’t sound like the V8, as we’ve already established, but I’ve heard worse-sounding V6 engines in my day. They’ve clearly given it some thought.
The video doesn’t show the Raptor doing anything it wasn’t capable of doing before. The prototype is still clearly using some regular F-150 pieces mixed with the Raptor bits, but it does seem to be coming along nicely. Hopefully we’ll see more details soon, and maybe some solid performance numbers?
Okay, now you’re free to hit up the forums with your thoughts and complaints about the new Raptor.
