Ford likes to do the slow tease when it comes to launching a new, high-performance automobile. That is very true for the much-anticipated Shelby GT350 and GT350 R Mustangs that are about to go on sale. This special Mustang has a flat-plane crankshaft V8 making over 500 horsepower.

It sounds epic.

The V8 engine noise and exhaust note are the subject of this video, that’s unfortunately set to some horrible background music. But you still get the idea of the awesomeness that is about to hit the streets.

Flat-plane crankshaft technology allows for the 5.2L V8 in the Shelby GT350 and GT350 R allows the engine to rev over 8,000 RPM. It also gives it a wail that you don’t normally hear from American V8 engines.

Flat-plane crankshafts are used in Ferraris, though the Shelby Mustangs will have their own unique sound.

It’s sad that Ferrari is opting for turbocharging, because now Ford makes the most Ferrari-like V8 engine available.

I know I’m excited to drive this beast! Are you? Let us know your thoughts in the forums!
