Wards Auto Names F-150 3.0L Turbo Diesel V6 Best Engine
Exceptional performance and fuel efficiency help make the 3.0L Turbo Diesel V6 powertrain the best in the trucking game.
Wards Auto released their annual 10 Best Engines awards, and once again Ford takes top honors. The 2019 Ford F-150’s 3.0L DOHC Turbo Diesel V6 engine was named the best engine overall.
Wards spends over 800 miles in each vehicle. They make their decisions based on each vehicle’s on performance, power, quality of ride, fuel efficiency, capability, and more.
“This is the best mainstream V6 diesel I’ve ever driven,” said editor Drew Winter of the. 3.0L Power Stroke Diesel. “Smoother and quieter than anything we’ve tested in a luxury car such as a Mercedes, Audi, BMW, or Jaguar, or a comparable pickup. Credit sophisticated combustion engineering and a 10-speed transmission.”
They also gave high marks for the beefy torque and towing capacity. Said Wards, the V6 has a “workman-like disposition, eager to do a good job, without complaint.”
It’s nice to see the hardworking Turbo Diesel V6 get some well-earned praise. With this diesel engine, Ford has effectively used Detroit ingenuity to deliver an engine that adheres to all regulations, but never sacrifices on classic blue oval power and performance.
