Truckin’ Fast Wednesday: New Raptor Outruns Old Raptor

By -

Witness the supremacy of the 3.5L EcoBoost V6, as it goes up against the old-school V8!

This week’s “Truckin’ Fast Wednesday” video comes courtesy of CravenPerformance, and it features a short drag race between two F-150 Raptors. One is a 2014 model packing the SVT 6.2L V8 with 411 horsepower and 434 lb-ft of torque, and the 2017 model sporting the new 3.5L EcoBoost V6 with 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque.

The 2017 Raptor has more power than the 2014 model, but it also has the 10-speed automatic transmission, compared to the 2014’s 6-speed gearbox. In addition, the new truck weights some 500 pounds less (in Supercab trim) than the V8 model. Not surprisingly, that advantage extends to the real world, which you will see in this video.

The video shows this Raptor-versus-Raptor drag race from the starting line, and later from the finish line. The first angle shows the two trucks being pretty even until they are too far away. However, the video footage from the finish line shows the new Raptor having an advantage at the end of the race, beating the 2014 truck by several lengths.

This “track” appears to be around an eighth-mile-long or so, and based on how the new truck is pulling away when the two pass the camera, it seems likely that the difference would be even greater in a full quarter-mile race. Do you agree?
