VelociRaptor 6×6 or Ford Raptor 4×4: Question of the Week
Is the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6×6 your dream truck, or would you rather have the Ford F-150 Raptor 4×4?
The Hennessey VelociRaptor 6×6 made its public debut at this week’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas and as you might expect, it is one of the most extreme Ford trucks ever. In addition to items like the custom bumpers, the enlarged wheel flares and the extra off-road lighting, the VelociRaptor features a second rear axle and two extra wheels. Of course, to make the extra wheels fit out back, Hennessey had to lengthen the chassis and the bed, but the result is a Ford F-150 Raptor with six-wheel-drive.
Those VelociRaptor buyers who don’t think that the 450hp output of the high performance 3.5L EcoBoost V6 can also add a high performance engine package. That upgrade lifts the output to a whopping 605 horsepower and 622lb-ft of torque.
As you might expect, none of these upgrades come cheap, as the ‘base’ VelociRaptor has an MSRP of $295,000 and the high performance engine package adds another $22,500 for a total price of $317,500. For comparison, the ‘regular’ 2018 F-150 Raptor with only four wheels and only 450hp has a loaded-up price of in the $70k range, bringing us to our Question of the Week.
Which Raptor for You?
Based on the gigantic price of the VelociRaptor, there is a good chance that most Ford truck fans would opt for the standard production Raptor, but what if price wasn’t a concern? If you were crazy-wealthy and money was not an issue, would you rather have the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6×6 or the Ford F-150 Raptor 4×4 for your daily drive and weekend toy?
There is no doubt that the VelociRaptor is a showstopper, but it would likely become cumbersome in tight off-roading situations or when trying to navigate the daily grind. On the other hand, the ‘regular’ Raptor is designed to be the ultimate daily driven, off-roading machine, although it lacks the wow factor of the Hennessey pickup.
