U.K. Dealer Makes RHD 2018 Ford Raptor
No, this isn’t an episode of The Twilight Zone, there really is a Raptor with the wheel on the right side.
After a few blinks we have reluctantly come to the conclusion that someone has indeed created a right-hand drive Raptor. We stumbled across this story in the Telegraph, then tracked the right-drive Raptor down to Clive Sutton. Clive Sutton is a dealership in the UK that specializes in exotics, supercars, and American imports. Aside from the Mustang, the dealership notes that everything else from the North American Ford catalog comes solely in a left-hand drive arrangement.
The dealership has made a bit of a name for itself in the world of RHD conversions, especially the last generation Mustangs, Camaros, Escalades. The headline names are all represented, and now that includes the Raptor. They’ve even updated the infotainment system for use in the UK, which seems to mean they’ve updated it for different radio frequencies and European navigation.
When you take a closer look at the pictures the conversion looks high quality too. The price reflects that as well: 106,800 GBP with taxes. That’s more than $150,000 for a 2018 Ford Raptor! A quick Autotrader search turned up a bunch of Raptors all within a few grand of $70,000.
The Telegraph concedes that, even though the Raptor isn’t practical, they understand why some people would want one. Duh! When they started getting into payload capacity we were shaking our heads. Talking about how much you can load into the back of your Raptor misses the point. Though you can do regular truck things with a Raptor, the Raptor can do things a regular truck can’t even dream of doing. That and 450 hp with go-anywhere suspension sure makes all kinds of driving a good time.
Does anyone else read the ad from Clive Sutton in Rod Sterling’s voice, or is it just us?
