Tuned EcoBoost F-150 Beats Speedy Box Truck: Truckin’ Fast Wednesday
Even with fairly poor air, this 2018 F-150 with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost runs mid-12s with only an engine tune.
This week’s “Truckin’ Fast Wednesday” video comes to us from the YouTube channel of SSI Performance Tuning and it features an interesting drag race between a 2018 Ford F-150 and a heavily-modified box truck. The focus of this piece is, of course, the half-ton F-Series, but the insanely-quick competitor makes the video even more interesting.
In the near lane, we have a 2018 Ford F-150 FX4 SuperCrew powered by the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with help from a 10-speed automatic transmission. This truck is stock with the exception of an E30 tune from SSI Performance Tuning and when we say stock, we mean that everything appears to be stock, right down to the factory chrome wheels.
As for the competitor, we don’t know exactly what it is, shy of being a huge, old box truck that is obviously powered by a built diesel engine. It spews exhaust soot through the hood and sounds like a diesel racer, so it is clear that this is not your average box truck. That becomes even clearer once the race begins.
EcoBoost Versus Box Truck
Prior to the green lights dropping, you might expect that this box truck could serve as an unlikely challenger for the F-150 and within the first few feet of the race, the commercial vehicle holds the lead. If this was a stock EcoBoost half-ton, the box truck might have been able to drive away, but the tuned Ford quickly gains the lead and pulls away slightly on the top end.
Sadly, we don’t get to see what the box truck runs, but the F-150 turned in a 12.54 at 106.73 miles per hour with nothing but a tune at a density altitude of 3,000 feet. At sea level or below, this truck could likely get into the lower-12s with just the tune while looking completely stock from the outside.
Crank up your speakers and enjoy!
