Truckin’ Fast Wednesday Presented by Nitto Tire
Late-model Ford F-150 covers the quarter-mile in just 12.70 seconds courtesy of its 3.5-liter EcoBoost motor.
Ford’s latest twin-turbocharged motor for the F-150 delivers 375 horsepower and 470lb-ft of torque. Such specifications make it the most powerful engine in the lineup, while also offering solid fuel economy numbers. Perhaps the most appealing aspect of the 3.5L EcoBoost is that like so many other turbocharged engines, it can be easily tuned to deliver outrageous horsepower.
The F-150 in the video above by SSi Performance Tuning is stock, with the only exception of an ECU tune. While we don’t know what kind of power this blue beauty makes, it gets down the quarter-mile in a hurry while competing against the tuned import on the right lane.
When the green light drops, the Ford F-150 quickly hops out ahead of what looks like a Mitsubishi Eclipse or Talon – which quickly realized never really had a chance against the American pickup. The half-ton truck stays out ahead of the speedy little compact, hitting the quarter-mile mark in 12.70 seconds with a speed of 104.65 miles per hour. The wannabe racer only logs a 13.53 at 105.46, so the Ford beats the turbocharged import by nearly a full second.
