Truckin’ Fast Wednesday: EcoBoost Whoops Hemi

By -

This quarter-mile race between a tuned Ford and a tuned Ram is something you must see.

Today’s “Truckin’ Fast Wednesday” video features a quarter-mile drag race between a 2014 Ford F-150, and a 2014 Ram 1500. The Ford is powered by a 3.5L EcoBoost V6, and the Ram is powered by the 5.7L Hemi V8. In stock form, the EcoBoost packs 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, while the Hemi packs 395 horsepower and 407 lb-ft of torque — giving the Ram a big horsepower advantage.

However, neither of these 2014 model year trucks are stock. The F-150 has a 4-inch catback exhaust system, a cold air intake, and an 87-octane SCT performance tune. The Ram has only a 93-octane performance tune, per the video details. Could the higher octane performance tune help the smaller, lighter Hemi truck pull ahead?

As soon as the race begins, the F-150 jumps out to a big lead thanks to a far better reaction time. At the end of the race, you’ll realize that these certainly aren’t the quickest trucks we have featured, but they provide a good example of what simple mods can do to an already powerful stock truck.
