Truckin’ Fast Wednesday: 2013 EcoBoost F-150 Runs 13.1

A 2013 Ford F-150 with the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 sports a simple ECU tune but delivers big time.

Since the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 was introduced a few years back, it has been the premium engine option for the Ford F-150 lineup. While there were some skeptics early on in the life of the EcoBoost, this engine has proven to be every bit as good as the 5.0L when it comes to towing, hauling, drivability and fuel economy. But, the twin-turbo V6 also has an extra advantage over the naturally aspirated V8.

Like most turbocharged engines, there is plenty more power left under the hood of the 2013 Ford F-150, and when an ECU tune throws emission concerns to the wind – the standard power of the 3.5L V6 is increased substantially. The details for these two F-150 pickups are short, but they explain that the blue Ford truck is “heavily modded,” while the other truck is nearly stock with just a tune. After a lengthy staging process, the two F-150 pickups finally get into the beams, and the lights come down as they prepare to battle.

Within the first 100 feet of the race, the grey F-150 in the far lane has taken a clear advantage, but then…
