This week’s Truckin’ Fast video features a newer Ford Explorer Sport in action on the quarter mile against a 2005—2009 Ford Mustang GT. In most cases, a newer Ford Explorer racing against a Mustang GT would amount to a beating for the SUV, but this is not most cases.

This Explorer has been worked by the folks at Lund Racing and with very simple modifications, this turbocharged SUV is capable of beating the mighty Mustang pretty convincingly.

The Ford Explorer Sport is powered by the twin turbocharged 3.5L EcoBoost V6 makes 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque in stock trim, but Lund Racing has added an AirRaid cold air intake and their own 93 octane tune to get some extra ponies out of the boosted V6.

We don’t know how much power this tuned Explorer makes, but it is enough power to move the full sized SUV down the quarter mile in 13.02 seconds with an impressive trap speed of 105.6 miles per hour. For comparison, the Mustang GT in the other lane “only” ran a 13.36 (albeit with a higher trap speed of 106 mph).

It is very impressive that with nothing more than an intake and tune, the new Explorer Sport is able to get very near the 12 second range. Crank up your speakers and enjoy!
