TRUCK YEAH Ford the Leader in CNG Vehicle Sales

By -

Ford dominates at selling trucks. This is a fact that you already know. But did you know that Ford dominates at offering alternative fuel, compressed natural gas, trucks and utilities as well? They are the leader in CNG-equipped vehicles in the United States.

Since 2009, Ford has sold 57,000 vehicles prepared to run on CNG or propane. That’s more than the rest of the entire United States automotive industry has sold, combined. That’s no small feat, considering that even though the prep kit is inexpensive, the actual upfitting can run between $7,500 and $13,000 depending on tank size.

Not only do they offer the option on their Super Duty line of trucks, but they also offer it on the half-ton F-150. In addition to the trucks, they also offer CNG and propane prep on the Transit and Transit Connect vans and wagons.

Ford believes that 70% of the CNG-equipped vehicles are delivered to the customer completely fitted for CNG from a licensed dealer. Another 20% have the job done in the first year of ownership.

Here’s where a CNG buyer can have their vehicle upfit:

  • Altech-Eco, based in Asheville, North Carolina
  • IMPCO Automotive, based in Sterling Heights, Michigan
  • Landi Renzo USA, based in Torrance, California
  • ROUSH CleanTech, based in Livonia, Michigan
  • Venchurs Vehicle Systems, based in Adrian, Michigan
  • Westport, based in Dallas

Between those six companies, they have 36 locations across the country.

If you’re a fleet buyer looking for alternative fuel options, just look for something built Ford tough!
