1959 ford truck ad

This week’s Throwback Thursday takes us back to 1959, where Ford Motor Company was moving “Ford-Ward” with the 1959 Ranchero and four wheel drive full size truck.

The Ranchero was designed to offer the feel of the car with the payload capacities of a truck, and they did so by using a car platform, replacing the back seat and truck with a reinforced bed. The Ranchero was based on the full size Ford Courier sedan in 1959, which allowed it to haul up to 1,000 lbs in the bed.

The other key vehicle in this 1959 Ford commercial was the introduction of the Ford four wheel drive trucks. Four wheel drive systems were in their infancy back in 1959, but the demand had gotten high enough for the Motor Company to begin building four wheel drive trucks in 1959.

This made the Ford trucks the most capable in all sorts of terrain, so when combined with the Ranchero, Ford Motor Company had the broadest truck offering in 1959.
