THROWBACK VIDEO 1976 F-100 5.0L Got Better MPG than 2015!
Today’s Throwback video takes us back to the 1970s, where we check out an ad for the 1976 Ford F-100 pickup.
This full size pickup is showing pushing through deep, muddy water and blasting through the woods while the narrator points out that, when equipped with the 5.0L V8 and a manual transmission, that new Ford was rated at 24 miles per gallon on the highway and 16 miles per gallon around town.
Back in 1975 and 1976, America was climbing out of the final terrors of the gas crisis of 1973, and prices were hovering at a painful 59 cents a gallon.
Because of that, even pickup trucks were being marketed for their fuel economy figures and the 1976 F-100 offered very impressive numbers with the 5.0L V8.
In fact, the 1976 F-100 in this commercial gets better fuel economy than the 2015 F-150 with four wheel drive, an automatic transmission and the far more powerful 5.0L V8, beating the new truck by 2 mpg on the highway and 1 mpg around town.
