This week’s Throwback video brings you a look at a television commercial for the 1953 Ford F-800 dump truck. While this might seem like an odd level of Ford truck for a TV ad – especially back in the early 1950s – but the Motor Company wrapped this Ford truck ad into a 2-minute video about a new highway being built between New York City and Buffalo, New York.

The narrator talks about how much work is going into the construction of this important roadway and to complete a job this hard, the company doing the work is relying on brand new 1953 Ford F800 dump trucks.

To best highlight the positive attributes of the 1953 Ford F-800, the commercial includes an interview with one of the truck drivers working on that New York highway system. He talks about how much power it has (no engine specs are mentioned), how easy it is to shift and how comfortable the cabin is on long drives. In fact, is it so easy that the guy believes that his wife could drive it.

The commercial ends by quickly showing some of the other 1953 Ford pickups and overall, it is a great look at how they marketed heavy duty trucks back in the day. Enjoy!
