The New Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is “Built Ford Tough”

2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

While we don’t expect you to pay attention to what the Bowtie is doing on a regular basis, you might have noticed that they revealed the all-new Camaro ZL1. It has a 640 horsepower engine and will be fast. But one thing you might not have noticed is that the car has an optional 10-speed automatic transmission. That transmission is also what appears in the new 2017 Raptor. Allow me to explain.

Ford and General Motors recently worked together on a design for a 10-speed automatic transmission. The first Ford implementation of this transmission is the 2017 Raptor. On the General Motors side, it looks like the first vehicle to get the new transmission is the ZL1 Camaro.

Of course, each automaker is building the transmission themselves, and will feature different calibration depending on which vehicle it goes in. Ford isn’t actually building the transmission that General Motors is using in their cars, but it’s not a stretch to say that some of Ford’s engineering went into the development of a key component of a new Chevrolet product.

You could also make the argument that the new Raptor is “Like a Rock.” But we won’t!
