Confirmed: The Ford Focus RS will Rally Race Again!
The day after Ken Block’s Gymkhana 8 video was released to the world, Ford has officially announced the return of the Rallye Sport badge to an FIA sanctioned racing series.
The 2016 Ford Focus RS will be modified to FIA World Rallycross Championship specifications, and will take place on the grid of all twelve races which expand from Argentina, Canada, Latvia and about nine more European countries.
Behind the wheel will be Honnigan Racing’s Ken Block and recent-but- experienced new-hire, Andreas Bakkerud. Together they will go against some of the world’s most experienced and competitive rally drivers, including WRC champion and French superstar, Sebastian Loeb.
No word yet on the performance attributes of the Rallycross-spec Ford RS, but it will most likely pack less of a punch than the Gymkhana-issued Fiesta ST, as most of that tire-burning horsepower is strictly for show.
The Ford Focus RS has been absent from world-class, FIA sanctioned events since 2010 when the Focus RS WRC program was called off.
