Take a Trip Back to the Pro Street Era in a Candy-stripe Ranchero
Found for sale in the classifieds, ’67 Ranchero was featured in three magazines between 1988 and 1990.
Do you remember the Pro Street era of hot rodding? The period between the awesome Eighties and early Nineties gave us the wildest creations around, taking the aesthetic of NHRA Pro Stock to the limit and beyond. Of course, not a whole of them were drivable, let alone ready to rumble on the strip, and the whole scene faded into the background under the gray skies of grunge.
Now that the Eighties have filtered into the mainstream one way or another, though, you might want to relive the Pro Street era any way you can. One way is through this ’67 Ranchero we found the other day on WeBe Autos, a ute that happens to be a veteran of the scene.
This candy-striped Ranchero was a feature car in three different publications between 1988 and 1990, including the October 1990 edition of Super Ford. It’s a ute of its time, for certain.
Backing this beastly Ranchero build is a Ford 302 from 1996 linked to a three-speed automatic to the fat rear tires. The big V8 is topped by a massive blower in chrome, and cradled in the red tube frame. We don’t know how much power it’s packing, but we figure this ute sounds hardcore cruising to the car show.
The Ranchero is ready to hit Radwood or your local cruise night, dropping a ton of neon and tropical sunsets upon the unsuspecting. This is one throwback we wouldn’t throw out of the parking lot.
