Spied: 2019 Ranger Chassis Cab Is a Proper Mid-Size Work Truck
Ranger Chassis Cab takes aim at Chevy’s boxless Colorado and promises to further Ford’s commercial dominance.
Still feeling a little bit uncertain about the return of the Ford Ranger in 2019? Are you worried that Ford might bring back the treasured truck for awhile, then snatch it away like some sort of delicious treat we aren’t supposed to have? Well, fear not, Ranger fans. Because it looks like Ford is serious about not only getting into the mid-size truck game, but dominating it as well. Not only are we seemingly going to get a Ranger Raptor, it looks like we’ll be getting a proper Ranger Chassis Cab work truck, too.
At least, that’s what these telling spy photos seem to indicate. A deleted-box option for the 2019 Ranger seems like a direct shot at Chevy’s boxless Colorado, which it has had on the market since 2015. It’s also a smart move on Ford’s part, as the work truck market has exploded in recent years. Which just so happens to be a market that Ford has dominated for quite some time now.
Building a Ranger Chassis Cab, then, appears to be a highly logical next step for Ford. It gives their already dedicated commercial customers yet another option–this time a smaller, more efficient, and less expensive one. Still, the existence of a Ranger Chassis Cab is certainly news in North America. Upon its official introduction, Ford only announced that it would offer Crew Cab, 5 foot bed models and Super Cab, 6 foot bed configurations.
The Ranger Chassis Cab spotted testing in these shots is clearly a base XL trim model with steel wheels. Which is exactly what you’d expect from a proper work truck. Unlike old school work trucks, this one is also a Super Cab, which would offer up greater flexibility for commercial customers. But perhaps more importantly, this mule represents a sure sign that the return of the Ranger won’t be short lived!
