Skydiver Lands in the Bed of a New Ford F-250
Ford found a unique, suspenseful way to be involved in Experimental Aircraft’s ‘AirVenture Oshkosh’ event.
This week’s Freaky Friday video comes to us from the airshowfansh YouTube channel and it features footage from the 2018 Experimental Aircraft Association AirVenture Oshkosh event earlier this year. Ford has been involved with the EAA for decades, providing uniquely modified vehicles that are auctioned to raise money for the group, but at the 2018 AirVenture Oshkosh event, the Motor Company found another way to get in on the aeronautic fun.
EAA AirVenture Oshkosh
Each year, Oshkosh, Wisconsin plays host to the Experimental Aircraft Association AirVenture event. This is a festival of all things related to flight, which generally wouldn’t involve an automaker, but each year, Ford Motor Company has provided either a Mustang or an F-150 Raptor that was auctioned off for charity. This has helped to raise millions of dollars for the charitable arm of the EAA while also creating some very cool, aircraft-themed Ford performance vehicles.
Flying to a Ford
For the 2018 AirVenture Oshkosh event, Ford came up with a new way to add some branding. This included a skydiver from the Patriot Parachute Team jumping out of a plane with a Ford branded parachute and his landing zone was a new F-250. The description says that it is an F-150, but it is clearly a Super Duty. However, jumping from thousands of feet in the air, the difference between the bed size of an F-150 and F-250 is negligible.
Bottom line, landing in the bed of a pickup after jumping out of a plane is impressive regardless of the size of the truck.
As the man falls from the sky, reaching speeds over 60 miles per hour, the announcer at the event points out that he doesn’t see the truck in which the skydiver is supposed to land. He makes it sound as though the attempt might not be successful, but as the camera pans to the ground, the F-250 is right there to catch the skydiver. The truck continues to drive forward, keeping the Ford logos visible as the stunt wraps up.
