Silver Linings: Wrecked Truck Leads Ford Fan to a One-Owner OBS F-250
One OBS F-350 got T-boned, awaits transformation into flatbed. Other OBS F-250 is new forum member’s first-ever Ford.
Do you remember when you fell in love with your Ford truck? Do you recall what it did to your soul upon first sight? Maybe you were undoing the bow tie from your collar. Perhaps you were already living the Dearborn life, ready to take the next step. Either way, owning a Ford truck is a truly special thing.
Especially if it’s a classic. Or, in the case of new Ford Truck Enthusiasts forum member BrownOBS, a pair of them. As the name suggests, the OBS life runs deep, in large part due to his girlfriend and her truck. Yet, it would be a brown one that would lock him in.
“I helped my girlfriend buy it a couple years ago,” BrownOBS writes. “’97 F-350 XL 7.3L, 2WD automatic. The odometer shows like 125k, but the rest of the truck tells a different story. I recently replaced a replacement alternator and the AC compressor failed last year. All the same, it’s been a great truck, especially for its main intended purpose, which is pulling a horse trailer.”
Alas, the white OBS suffered an injury on the road when an errant motorist nearly T-boned the poster on the driver-side. Though okay, the truck now needs help to get it back in shape. Yet, this accident may be a blessing in disguise for the poster and his girl.
“This truck was already a ‘frankentruck’ when we got it,'” he says. “Boot ugly as well. I’ve kidded my girl about turning it into a flatbed for a while now. She finally agreed to it IF I made it a dual axle truck as well. Realistically, the current axle may actually be a dual axle.”
Thus, this OBS F-350 will soon ride upon the bones of an E-450 dual-axle, which he picked up the same week of the accident. But that’s not all he picked up. As fate would have it, he, too, would soon join the Blue Oval family.
“The previous owner ordered this one special from the local Ford dealership,” he said. “Five-speed 7.5L 4WD 3/4 ton. I’m guessing something akin to deluxe paint option. He didn’t drive this one much, I rolled it to 140k last week […] Despite never having considered myself a ‘Ford guy’ and this one being my first, I’m really enjoying everything about this truck except the gas mileage. I hated cutting the bed for the gooseneck mount as well this thing is so nice!”
While he plans to keep the OBS F-250 mechanically sound, he’s got a lot of work ahead of him for the OBS F-350, which he hopes to finish “sooner than later.” Until then, the brown Ford isn’t yet his, in his mind. We wish him and his girlfriend all the best.
