Love The Shins? Now You Can Win Their Ford Tour Van
All you need to own this Econoline Club Wagon is a good set of pipes.
Indie rockers The Shins have returned with a new album, Heartworms, which is the first release from the band in five years and brings their album count to five in total. Coinciding with the release of the new album, the group has decided to part ways with the Ford Econoline Club Wagon. But instead of sending it to an auction site, The Shins are giving one extremely lucky fan the opportunity to win their old tour van through a giveaway.
Before outlining some of the van’s rich history, here are the details behind the giveaway: The band fixed up the old van and are looking to give it to another group of artists to help them spread their music throughout the nation.
To enter, musicians will need to record a video covering one of The Shins’ new songs from Heartworms, then share the video by using the hashtag #ShinsVanContest. James Mercer, the founder of the band, will name the winner by choosing his favorite entry.
Now onto the van itself. The Club Wagon, as one would expect, is a rich treasure trove of history. According to Mercer, who outlines the background of the van in the video below, the van originally belonged to a cattle ranch and had manure throughout the entire interior. The interior was so dirty, that it had to be power-washed. Clearly, the van has come a long way from hauling around cow poop to ferrying an iconic indie rock band.
