Shelby’s Back on the Track Thanks to the GT350R-C
Get ready racing fans, the Mustang is heading back to the track thanks to the all new GT350R-C. Yes, that’s right, the Shelby moniker is making its way back onto the grid this weekend at the Watkins Glen race for the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge.
After years of campaigning the Boss 302Rs throughout the PWC field, Ford is aiming to get back on top of the field with the new Shelby GT350R-C.
This new car uses the same underpinnings as the new production car, although reinforced for the hazards of sportscar racing.
What’s even better though is that Ford kept the wonderfully insane sounding 5.2L flat-plane crank V8 found in the road cars. Although this one has no mufflers or cats, so it’s going to be quite a bit louder.
According to Ford, “Like so many Mustangs before it, the Shelby GT350R is a car born to race,” said Dave Pericak, director, Global Ford Performance. “We’re taking it to the track as the GT350R-C and we’re ready to see what it can do against the best competition in the world.”
As I stated before, the new Shelby GT350R-C will make its debut this weekend at Watkins Glen, so keep your fingers crossed and pray it does well.
