Shelby GT350R Crushes Z/28 Nürburgring Lap Time
High performance cars are all about bragging rights. In the epic battle of of Ford versus Chevrolet, it is even more true. When the Camaro Z/28 launched last year, Chevy dropped the mic and said “bring it” to the rest of the sports car world.
Even though it’s just a Camaro, it had the stuff of supercars and even won Motor Trend‘s Best Driver’s Car. According to the folks at Evo, Ford did bring it by crushing the Z/28 at the Nürburgring by 5 seconds!
If you are wondering what this epic lap time is, it’s 7 minutes and 32.19 seconds. Not only is it faster than the competing Camaro, but it’s just 0.8 seconds off the pace of the Pagani Zonda F! Yes folks, that’s freakin’ fast.
The GT350R has many firsts for Ford, including the flat-plane crank V8 that will also be in the regular GT350. It will also have carbon fiber wheels, brakes, and various body components.
MagnaRide keeps the suspension in check, and some Michelin Pilot Super Sports 2 tires will keep it glued to the tarmac. Finally, Ford stripped every bit of unnecessary weight out of the car, including air conditioning.
Despite all the go-fast goodies, Ford resisted the urge to replace the traditional manual transmission with a faster-shifting dual-clutch setup. It might be a performance car, but Ford still wants to keep the motoring enthusiasts happy.
We can’t wait to see a head-to-head comparison once the GT350R goes on sale latest this year!
