Shelby F-150 Super Snake Dominates Hemi-Powered RAM TRX

The duo from Throttle House races a Ram TRX against a Shelby F-150 Super Snake and the results are thrilling!

We accused TFL Truck of foul play when they raced a Hemi-powered TRX against a stock second-gen Ford Raptor and since then tuning houses across America have leveled the playing field with their offerings. After Hennessey Performance Engineering, PaxPower unveiled its F-150 based high-performance contender. Now, in a recent Throttle House video, we see James (left) and Thomas (right) drag race a 2021 Ram TRX against the 770 HP Shelby F-150 Super Snake.

The TRX comes equipped with a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 which produces 702 HP of power and Shelby’s offering equipped with a supercharged 5.0-liter Coyote motor puts out 770 HP. It is also worth noting that the Hellcat-sourced powerplant produces 40 lb-ft more than the Super Snake which produces 610 lb-ft of maximum torque.

The F-150 Super Snake is lighter than Ram TRX and according to Shelby; its high-performance pickup can accelerate to 60 MPH from a standstill in just 3.45 seconds. Ram estimates that TRX can make the same rum in 4.5 seconds but the truck also comes equipped with launch control which helps it get off the line faster. Lastly, the Ram TRX is equipped with an 8-speed gearbox whereas Shelby’s offering gets a 10-speed automatic transmission.

With both trucks evenly matched, this was going to be an exciting showdown. As suspected, the launch control helped RAM TRX get off the line faster than the Super Snake but Shelby’s offering quickly closed the gap and then dominated the Hemi-powered pickup. The performance of the Shelby F-150 overwhelmed James,” I didn’t even brake torque because I can’t. The power overpowers the brakes”.

The presenters then decided to roll race and without the intervention of TRX’s launch control, the F-150 Super Snake left Ram’s offering in its dust. Even Thomas could not stop himself from admiring the sheer power of the f-150 Super Snake, “that this has got so much top-end”.

Prices for the 2021 Ram TRX start at $71,690 but the model raced by the Throttle House duo gets a $90,265 price tag. The prices of the Shelby F-150 Super Snake start at $86,085 but the variant raced by James is priced at $93,385 and for that kind of price, Shelby F-150 Super Snake’s interior is quite modestly equipped.

Gadgetry is not the USP of the Shelby F-150 and the truck’s appeal was best described by James as, “it’s hard not to love the honesty of the Super Snake and the look and let’s not forget it decimated the TXR today,” he further adds, it is a truck with unmatched pace a serpentine assassin of the strip and true to its mission lays waste to its rivals and doesn’t look back”.
