Rivian R1T Beats Ford F-150 Raptor in Drag Race…while Towing ANOTHER TRUCK

Rivian R1T vs Ford F-150 Raptor vs Ram TRX Drag Race

The all-electric Rivian R1T is insanely quick, but this series of drag races clearly demonstrates that fact.

By now, pretty much everyone is aware of the fact that electric vehicles are, for the most part, quicker than their ICE-powered counterparts. Makers of EVs have discovered that they can give them incredible amounts of power without having to worry about the experiencing the tradeoffs that powerful gas engines often present, while the instant torque provided by electric motors makes them incredibly quick off the line. That’s on full display in this drag race pitting a Rivian R1T against a Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram TRX, which was recently conducted by the folks at Hagerty.

The very first product from Rivian – a company Ford owns a major stake in – is the R1T, which comes equipped with four electric motors producing a total of 835 horsepower. Though it weighs over 7,000 pounds, the EV pickup has more than enough power and traction to overcome that disadvantage, and is quick enough that Rivian claims it can do 0-60 in 3 seconds flat.

Those numbers obviously trump its ICE-powered rivals, including the mighty Ram TRX, which has a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 cranking out 702 horsepower, as well as the F-150 Raptor and its twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, which is rated to produce “just” 450 ponies. But it’s out on the track where the Rivian R1T truly shines and shows off just how much quicker it is when compared to even its mightiest gas-powered foes.

In the three-way, straight up drag race, the R1T explodes off the line and immediately jumps out to a big lead on both trucks, with the TRX lagging behind in second place. In the process, it manages to hit 60 mph in 3.0 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds at 111 mph, which is quicker than a whole lot of sports cars these days. The TRX managed a still-impressive 3.7-second 0-60 and 12.2-second quarter-mile, followed by the Raptor and its 5.4-second 0-60 and 14.2-second quarter-mile.

In an effort to try and handicap the R1T, the crew at Hagerty decides to hitch up a trailer towing a GMC Syclone to the EV pickup and line it up for yet another, highly-entertaining drag race. With an additional 6,000 pounds behind it, the R1T concedes victory to the TRX, but stays neck and neck with the Raptor before pulling ahead and taking the win, shockingly. For EV proponents, this may not come as much of a surprise, but to us, it just means that the V8-powered Raptor R can’t get here fast enough.
