Revell-Monogram “Black Widow” Hot Rod Replica 1928 Ford Pickup

Lifesize reproduced toy cars are not normally built to this level of detail so finding this 1928 Ford pickup replicating a Revell 1/24 scale Kit at Barrett-Jackson is a thrill. This particular truck started its life as 1928 Ford Model AA Pickup which was hand-built into an almost mirror-image of Revell-Monogram’s vintage toy model kit the “Black Widow”. If you’re in the market for high-octane pumping, Prohibition-era hot rod, epically expert-assembled full-scale replica of a little model kit pickup truck then let’s grab the keys and fire it up.

Combing through the fully sold out list of consignments for Barrett-Jackson’s Northeast event looks like this is one of the few, if not the only fully hot rodded Ford Model AA pickups. No mention of who the owner, garages or build specialists used though if Barrett-Jackson’s experts give it the ‘go-ahead’ it must be of fine quality. Details in the auction remarks tell the owner finished the project in 2007 and has won many awards as well as been the cover story for a bunch of car magazines. Though not much about frame, suspension or body although it’s easy to see it underwent a full frame-up restoration to achieve that prowling attack stance, level of paintwork and other comprehensive updates.

The craftsmanship of build is one thing but how well each part was chosen to perfectly match the Monogram model is brilliant. Black paint, white accenting soft tops, open engine bay with big intake pipes and lowered down locking in that flush hot rod physique matching the model in-script. This is sure to gain value in the future if for nothing else its famous aesthetics and not even for its hot rod power which matches the model with a bulletproof Ford frame and Chevy muscle. A speed-ready Chevy 350 V8 engine delivering power through a Chevy 350 auto trans down to those big pillow plush tires finishing off the look. What would you shell out for this car show cruiser?
