Remember: You Can Still Order Exactly What You Want from Ford
Are you looking for a new truck and can’t seem to find what you’re looking for on the dealership lot? It’s a common occurrence for those of us picky about our options, or are enthusiasts looking for something in particular. But you can still order straight from the factory, and you should be able to get the same deal.
Dealerships are in the business of selling cars. While yes, they’d always prefer to sell what’s on the lot, not selling a truck means the dealership doesn’t make money from selling the truck. The salesperson doesn’t make money from the selling the truck. There is financial incentive to sell to you, even if you want to order.
Additionally, the build you’re looking for might exist on another lot where the dealership is willing to trade. In that case, the dealership ends up with one fewer truck in inventory while also making the sale. This is a common practice and shouldn’t affect the price.
The only thing that would hold someone back from wanting to order direct or doing a dealership trade would be time. If you need to buy a truck immediately and go home with it immediately, then you are at the mercy of the dealership and the stock they have on hand.
Just keep in mind that if one particular dealership isn’t willing to work with you to get the truck you want at the price you want, there’s likely another dealership out there that will. Since Ford is such a large manufacturer, some cities have more than one dealership to choose from, so you don’t even have to drive that much farther to get the deal you want.
You should also remember that even though Ford will custom build you your truck with the options you want, that doesn’t mean they can make options appear out of nowhere. If you want a manual transmission, for example, you’re out of luck. You’re limited to the options presented on the Ford Build and Price section of their website.
It’s a good idea to visit the Build and Price tool before heading to the dealership or making contact. This way you know exactly what’s available, and you can present the dealership with exactly what you want. Then there’s no confusion during the ordering process.
I’ve ordered more than one vehicle from the manufacturer to get exactly what I wanted. The extra time waiting is worth it for something like a new vehicle, especially if you plan on keeping it for a long time. You don’t want to have a could have, should have, would have moment in the future.
The Internet is an invaluable tool when trying to find a new truck with everything you want, and nothing you don’t. Be sure to take advantage of it before you head to the dealership next time to have a smooth experience.
