RAPTOR REPORT Pickup Makes Cover of Car and Driver Magazine
Let’s face it, there’s no “truck” in Car and Driver. The magazine often features high-tech sports cars and innovative technology on their cover.
But for this month, they’ve done something they haven’t done in a long time; feature a Ford truck! The truck in question is the 2017 Raptor. The last time a Ford truck was on the cover was the SVT Lightning.
Raptor is big news from this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit. With a twin-turbo EcoBoost V6, it is said to make even more power than the outgoing V8. We have been told that it is a rocketship and we should expect to be blown away by the performance.
Car and Driver are saying they expect the new truck to push 500 horsepower. Ford’s Raj Nair said somewhere in the 450 horsepower range. Regardless of where the number ultimately lies, that’s pretty powerful for a V6 pickup. It’s clear to us that such a high-performance vehicle is deserving of a cover on one of the biggest magazines in the country, regardless if it’s attached to a truck or car platform.
During it’s hey-day, the Lightning was a serious performance truck. Some enthusiasts cried foul when SVT went in a different direction and built the Raptor instead of another street truck.
Years later, it seems Ford was right with the Raptor, because they were selling strong all the way up to when the 2014s went out of production. How will the new truck do? We have to wait and see!
