Raptor Holds its Own Against a Boss 302 Mustang: Truckin’ Fast Wednesday
EcoBoost power and four-wheel-drive help this new Raptor hang with the poorly driven Mustang.
This week’s Truckin’ Fast Wednesday comes to us from the BalticMotorSport YouTube channel and it features a drag race between a 2012-2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302 and a 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor. This footage was captured at the Haapsalu, Kiltsi airfield in Estonia during the 2018 American Beauty Car Show, where locals can check out the hottest American vehicles in the area on the track and in the show fields.
In the case of these two high performance Ford products, they showcased their talents in the venue that Americans are known best for dominating. That is, of course, the drag strip.
The only information on these two vehicles are the year, make and model, and some of that isn’t correct. It says that this is a 2011 Boss 302, but the modern Boss was only offered in 2012 and 2013. We do know that this package came with a uniquely-tuned version of the 5.0-liter V8, sending 444 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque towards the rear wheels by means of a standard manual transmission. Although the Boss 302 package was designed for road racing, these cars are usually no slouch in the quarter mile, with stock times in the high-12-second range.
Of course, that takes a skilled driver, which this Boss 302 seems to lack.
The 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor is stock, so it has 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque being sent towards all four wheels by means of a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Raptor packs more horsepower and way more torque, but it also weighs considerably more than the Mustang. More importantly, the automatic transmission and advanced four-wheel-drive system making launching a breeze, as we see in the video above.
After both drivers take their sweet old time staging, the green lights drop and the two jump away from the starting line. The Mustang has a very brief lead, but that quickly dissolves as the twin turbocharged pickup pulls alongside right away. As the two Ford products head down track, they appear to be dead-even, with the Raptor holding a slight lead in the first half of the run.
Unfortunately, there is no win light and we don’t get to see the numbers for the Mustang, but it is clear that this race was very close on the big end, so the F-150 might have gotten the win. We know that the truck ran a 14.8, so regardless of who won or what the Mustang ran, the driver of the Boss 302 is doing a disservice to this car.
At the same time, this video shows the incredible performance potential of the new Raptor, so crank up your speakers and enjoy!
