RAPTOR REPORT U.S. Border Patrol Talks Raptor
Raptors are extremely capable trucks when it comes to flying fast across the desert, which makes it no surprise that the United States Border Patrol uses them in their enforcement fleet.
The folks over at The Truth About Cars were able to get someone within the Border Patrol to review the Raptors in their fleet and talk about their versatility.
It’s a very good read, and I encourage you to take a look at it in its entirety on their site. Here are some of the succulent highlights though.
Before the Raptor, their truck fleet consisted of Super Duty trucks outfitted for Border Patrol duty. While very capable, they couldn’t achieve fast speeds out in the desert.
The Raptor makes easy work out of standard patrol, and even offers a very comfortable ride.
They still use modified Super Duty trucks for work, since they have the same or more capability than the Raptor, they just suffer in the speed department. In some off-road situations, especially with rocks, speed is important.
“…if you want to find a product’s limits, give it to a Border Patrol Agent,” claims the author. They’ve killed some Raptors in the line of duty, but none of them because a Border Agent wasn’t able to handle the truck. Even the most ham-fisted drivers do well in the Raptor.
It seems that they are happy with the trucks, and we wouldn’t be surprised if they start using 2017 versions when they become available. While we wait, be sure to check out the original story and let us know what you think in the forums.
