Truckin’ Fast Wednesday: Ranger Beats a GT500

By -

Whoever said bigger was better clearly didn’t see this mighty Ford Ranger.

This week’s “Truckin’ Fast Wednesday” video features a quarter-mile battle between a first-gen Ford Ranger, and a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. In most cases, a race between a Shelby Mustang and the tiny Ford would lead to a sound beating for the little pickup. But, this is not your average Ford Ranger — just watch.

While we don’t have specifics on the Ranger or Mustang, we can see that this is a purpose-built pickup. With a roll cage, huge rear tires, and what sounds like a pretty healthy V8 under the hood, this is one lean, mean, racing machine. The Shelby Mustang came from the factory with 500 horsepower, making it one of the quickest and most powerful Mustangs to date. This sample looks stock, which doesn’t mean much considering that it falls short of this Ranger – so we are inclined to believe that it’s still stock.

The video courtesy of Starter Guy ends with a second look at the run, but this time from the inside of the pickup. This view really shows us how easily this powerful pickup gets down the track.
