2020 Ford Bronco V8: Yay or Nay?
When the badass new Bronco arrives, would you like to see a V8 option?
We know that there is a new Ford Bronco coming in 2020. Ford Motor Company has stated that it will be a rugged, mid-sized SUV seemingly designed to do battle with the Jeep Wrangler. Ford already has a great mid-sized SUV with the Edge, but that isn’t quite considered a rugged vehicle. So how will the company make the new model more rugged?
One feature that would allow the 2020 Bronco to stand apart from the Edge in a big way would be an optional V8 engine. We know that it will share a platform with the 2019 Ranger, and with that mid-sized pickup packing an array of 4- and 6-cylinder engines, it seems unlikely that we will see a V8 option in either of these new vehicles. However, this isn’t about what Ford will do. The Question of the Week is: What you would like to see under the hood of the new Bronco?
Mid-sized SUV with a V8?
Odds aside, the 2020 Ford Bronco with a 5.0L V8 would be a remarkable off-road performance machine. With somewhere in the area of 400 horsepower, a V8 Bronco would blow the Jeep Wrangler out of the water. We know that the new mid-sized SUV will have the ground clearance and an advanced four-wheel drive system to storm through pretty much any off-road situation, but so will the Wrangler.
The wheels, suspension and chassis design of the 2020 Bronco will allow the Ford to go anywhere that the Jeep can, but adding a V8 with big power would allow the new SUV to go through all of those places with much more speed. The 5.0L V8 would also allow the newest Ford SUV to pack greater capabilities when it comes to towing and hauling, which are two other areas where mid-sized SUVs are lacking.
